Yoga For Respiratory Health

In this course originally created as a response to COVID-19, you'll learn pranayama techniques that will help exercise your respiratory system.

Taught by Joe Simek, a certified yoga therapist, this course is a great introduction to yogic breathing.

About This Course

This course was recorded in May 2020 in response to COVID-19. It is also a great introduction into yogic breathing techniques.

So much is unknown about COVID-19. What appears to be very clear, is that this virus often effects the lungs and a person’s ability to breath. Yoga cannot cure coronavirus, or any virus for that matter. But there is long tradition of breathing methods within yoga practices, known collectively as pranayama, which can be helpful for respiratory health.

In this time of dealing with coronavirus, increasing our facility with breathing is a good idea. Not only as a preventative measure if one was to contract the virus, it can also help in the recovery process.

In these four, hour-long lessons, Joe Simek, a certified yoga therapist and long time yoga teacher, teaches pranayama techniques that will help exercise our respiratory systems. Although we will keep in mind the energetic effects of breathing, our focus will be on:

•    Using and strengthening our diaphragms
 •    Increasing our tidal volume of breath
 •    Expanding our ability to exhale forcefully
 •    Moving our bodies to facilitate breathing efficiency

This course is designed for the any level of experience with yoga or pranayama. It is NOT recommended for anyone suffering from an acute COVID-19 infection, but it may be helpful with recovering from long term COVID-19 symptoms. We highly recommend speaking with a doctor first before taking this class.

Come experience the helpful effects of purposeful breathing.

Testimonials

"Just wanted you to know that during and after your class last evening I was able to touch into the person I was before the shutdown. That more relaxed state before all the anxiety and concern about Covid-19 set in. It was such a welcome surprise. I didn’t realize how subtly I had changed over the past few months. So, thank you so much, Joe, for your great class and your guidance."
